Helping Women Recover -
The revised edition of Dr. Covington’s innovative gender-responsive and trauma-informed program integrates theories of women’s psychological development, trauma, and addiction. It contains evidence-based data as well as proven techniques to meet the needs of chemically dependent women. The comprehensive, seventeen-session learning package contains four modules with specific exercises that address the four topics that women identify as triggers for relapse: self, relationships, sexuality, and spirituality. These materials provide the information and tools counselors, mental health professionals, and program administrators need to implement a highly effective program of treatment for women’s recovery groups in varied settings. The package includes a step-by-step facilitator’s guide for use in settings where participants are dealing with such issues as self-esteem, sexism, family-of-origin, relationships, domestic violence, sexuality, and abuse. It also includes A Women’s Journal, the coordinated workbook, which is filled with self-tests, checklists, and exercises to enable each participant to create a personalized guide to recovery. The workbook is compatible with varied learning styles and reading levels. The materials are designed to be user-friendly and self-instructive. This allows the Helping Women Recover program to be implemented by a staff with a wide range of training and experience. The Beyond Trauma: A Healing Journey for Women treatment materials can be used in conjunction with Helping Women Recover to extend and deepen the trauma work introduced in Helping Women Recover.
