A Woman's Way through the Twelve Steps

2024 Open Enrollment Virtual Training Opportunity to Facilitate Groups

This live interactive training is for those who wish to learn effective ways to conduct the thirteen-session curriculum using the book, workbook, and facilitator's guide to run groups.  Space will be limited for this interactive virtual training.

This interactive training presents the 30th anniversary edition of A Woman's Way through the Twelve Steps curriculum materials.  Dr. Covington has updated the language from the original to be more inclusive, trauma-sensitive, and reflective of current values about gender, sexuality, spirituality, and recovery.  The three components of the program - facilitator guide, workbook, and book, along with the supplemental DVD - are designed for use with women and gender-diverse people in residential and outpatient treatment programs, as well as mental health and criminal justice settings.

Many women have entered recovery programs based on the Twelve Steps of AA, and we have discovered that women's needs in recovery and their pathways to recovery differ in some significant ways from those of men.  This training discusses some of the gender differences and presents the new 30th anniversary program materials.  This training offers practical guidance for working with trauma survivors and for conducting this thirteen-session curriculum of experiential exercises from the workbook and facilitator guide focused on the themes in each of the Steps.

This training is conducted by our Certified Trainer Carol Ackley, LADC, retired Executive Director of River Ride Treatment Center (2000-2015) who developed and implemented gender-responsive, trauma-informed, co-occurring treatment services in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area.  Throughout this interactive training, your trainer also discusses how the treatment program materials can be used with women in the criminal justice system.

We suggest that each person attending the training who plans to facilitate A Woman's Way through the Twelve Steps (2nd Edition) have a facilitator's guide available for the virtual training.  For others, having the book and workbook will enhance your learning experience.  Please visit our online bookstore or see our Book Order Form for additional information and ordering, or email kim@stephaniecovington.com.  Be sure to order materials a minimum of two weeks before the training starts for timely delivery.

The facilitator’s manual is a step-by-step guide containing the theory, structure, and content needed for running groups. The participant’s workbook allows women to process and record the therapeutic experience. The materials are designed to be user-friendly and self-instructive. This allows the A Woman's Way through the Twelve Steps program to be implemented by staff with a wide range of training and experience.
